The class schedule is designed to complement all SEACT Education productions, allowing students to easily partake in classes and productions without overburdening their school and extracurricular schedules.

FAQs

Why did SEACT start the Afterschool Conservatory?

Historically, student involvement at SEACT during the school year has been relegated to audition-based productions and our competition team. Although this model provides an enriching experience, it limits the breadth of material students can work on and does not allow enough time for individualized feedback and technique development. Conservatory fills this gap, maximizing educational outcomes and creating more opportunities for students to work on their craft with consistency.

How does enrollment work?

Enroll on SEACT’s class page, which requires a non-refundable $100 deposit. Enrollment is for one semester. If your child would like to be involved for the full school year, you will need to enroll for both the Fall and Spring semesters. Each semester is cumulative and features unique theatrical material of varying styles and difficulty.

Is there an enrollment deadline?

Yes, the deadline for Fall is August 15th, and the deadline for Spring is January 15th. If you miss the registration deadline, please email billyh@seact.com for possible options.

How much does Conservatory cost and how do I pay?

Conservatory costs $500 per semester. After you make your $100 deposit, the remaining balance can be paid in full or in monthly installments at givebutter.com/conservatory. Payment is per month–not per class. Fees will not be prorated for missed classes. Invoices will be emailed to you on the 1st of each month and payment is due on the 10th of each month. A $20 fee will be applied for late payments. If payment is not received by the 10th, your child will not be able to participate in classes until your outstanding balance is settled.

In addition to classes, what else is covered by the enrollment fee?

  • 50% off SEACT Education intensive and production enrollment fees (code provided upon enrollment)

  • Competition registration fees

  • Team T-Shirt

  • Thespian Society induction fee (Junior & Senior Thespians)

  • Thespian Society annual dues (Junior & Senior Thespians)

My child is registered for Conservatory, how do I utilize my 50% production enrollment discount?

Your Conservatory email confirmation includes your discount code. If you cannot find it, please email billyh@seact.com to receive your discount code prior to enrolling in a production.

Are Conservatory students required to participate in competitions?

Yes. Early, Junior, and Senior Thespians are required to participate in SEACT’s local TheatreFest, taking place in November. Junior and Senior Thespians have the option to participate in the Alabama Thespian Festival (Vestavia Hills) in February, but families will need to make their own accommodations for travel, food, and lodging. Students will also be required to present competition pieces at the SEACT Education Awards Banquet &  Showcase in April.

Can I take Competition Prep classes and compete without enrolling in Conservatory?

No. Partaking in SEACT’s competition team requires Conservatory enrollment. It is expected that students will apply key skills from their technique classes to their competition pieces.

Can I utilize private coaching instead of taking Conservatory?

Private coaching opportunities are extremely limited and dependent upon teacher availability. The rate is $45/half hour. Conservatory serves as the primary pathway for students who want to receive personalized training from SEACT Education teaching artists.
