Auditionees are welcome to attend both audition days if they would like to be considered within both featured role groupings or would like an additional opportunity to show the creative team what they can do; however, attending both days is not required in order to be considered for any role. Description: This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. More information.
Audition Style: For initial auditions, be prepared to sing the cut (or cuts) for the roles for which you are auditioning. Review the provided sheet music. You will also learn a 16-count movement routine on your audition day, so wear clothing you can move in and closed-toe shoes. Audition turnout will determine if vocal auditions are held privately or in small groups.
Cast List: The cast list will be posted within 24 hours of the final audition at SEACT.com and on SEACT's social media pages. You are expected to check the cast list and report to the required student & parent meeting on Thursday, Oct. 29 at 6:30 PM. This meeting is mandatory to confirm participation.
Cuts: Please understand that the material of Hadestown: Teen Edition is demanding. For this reason (as well as space and resource limitations), auditioning does not guarantee you a role. We ask that you treat the audition as an educational experience, and if you are not cast, we invite you to audition for Seussical JR. in the Spring, to enroll in our Afterschool Conservatory, or to join us for our summer camps and intensives.
Schedule: This show has a unique rehearsal schedule. Please review the calendar below carefully and make note of your conflicts when submitting your audition form. Lead roles will have required rehearsals in November and December, and the full cast will start rehearsals in January. The Worker ensemble will be invited to attend optional rehearsals in November and December.
Conflicts: All conflicts between Oct. 29 and March 14 must be provided at registration. Adding additional conflicts after casting is grounds for reduced stage time or dismissal from the production. Conflicts do not mean you will not be cast, but they might affect how you are cast.
Age Limit: Actors of all backgrounds between the ages of 13-19 are encouraged to apply! Actors must be 19 or younger at the time of performance.
Background Checks: Background checks will be required for actors, crew, and volunteers who are 18 or older.
Permissions: Parent/legal guardian must provide consent for any participant under the age of 19.
